I’ve come to enjoy spectating the Tour Divide each June in a way that I wouldn’t have expected. All of the updates come from Spot trackers, call-ins, and random twitter, blog, and forum postings. It’s up to me to put it all together, to form a picture of the race as it unfolds over the course of 20 days or so.
And unlike other long races happening in European countries during the summer (which I also follow in a desultory fashion), it’s a race being ridden by a bunch of regular — though single-minded — people on a variety of bikes. It’s something we all could do, with adequate preparation and a modicum of insanity.
