With some regret, I’ve withdrawn from this year’s Ragnarok 105.
It’s the usual sob story. Just when I was starting to ramp up my mileage in preparation for the early spring events, I contracted a nasty case of upper respiratory flu, which in turn led to some other secondary symptoms that have left me barely able to ride to work, much less put on the serious mileage and climbing that one needs to prepare for something like the Ragnarok.
And, when it comes right down to it, it just didn’t seem like a good idea to lay out for a rental car, a couple of nights in a hotel, and a day of vacation in order to ride 105 hilly miles on gravel without the preparation required to make it a good ride.
At this point, even with preparation from now until then (which itself is still up in the air), I’m not sure I’d even finish, even if rode it geared instead of singlespeed.
I am in this, after all, for more than just mere survival.
