We’d originally intended this to be a Trans-Iowa training ride–some long, slow distance and lots of saddle time on one of the local rail trails. But Grant was recovering from a cold and I was recovering from the working-over I gave myself at Kettle Moraine on Global Fat-Bike Day.
I rode the Devil.
Recovery requires rest, a moderate pace, and lots of fuel, so we started an hour later, rode only to Lake Mills from Madison, grabbed coffee and lunch at the Water House Cafe, and then stopped for a couple of beers (bourbon barrel imperial porter and a coffee imperial porter) at the Tyranena Brewing Company before riding back the way we came.
Not training, not exactly. But more saddle time and more miles and more riding in general is better than it’s opposite.
