Tour de Taco

This last Sunday, instead of riding out on the road, we put together a Tour de Taco.

The details:

  • 15 Madison taco joints
  • At each stop, we asked for what they considered their best taco
  • We also asked for their favorite Mexican band
  • Then we ordered enough of that taco for the entire group (and perhaps a few  beers to share)
  • And added the band to the streaming station that Nate was piping through a speaker on his bike.

We made it to 8 taco joints and ate six tacos (one was closed, though they did give us an excellent tamale; the other was not quite a taco joint after all). Of the six, there was one fish, two pastor, one steak, one shrimp, and one barbacoa. The blackened fish tacos from Pan y Pan were the group favorite, with the pastor from Habanero coming in a close second.

As for the music selections, they were heavily weighted toward the norteño end of things, with Los Tigres del Norte setting the tone.

After we topped out on tacos, we retired to the deck for more beer and conversation and laughter.

  1. Blackened fish taco gets my vote. Looks really good!
Great theme ride. Perhaps I will try to come up with something similar…smoothies, milk shakes, fries…

  2. SW says:

All sorts of possibilities, really, for theme rides.

I think the next one, at least for me, will be an espresso ride. Leave early, take in an espresso and perhaps a bite to eat at as many of the good coffee places in town as possible. Ride hard in between to burn off the buzz. Given the somewhat sprawled nature of some of Madison and that there are only so many places that I’d consent to drink espresso, I figure that I can make a half-day of it without completely over-caffeinating myself
